Tuchel shuts the door

In a press conference, Thomas Tuchel was clear: Mason Greenwood is not in his plans for England. No discussions with the player or his entourage, according to the German coach. The Marseille forward, now a naturalized Jamaican, therefore keeps his international future on hold.

For the England national team, competition is fierce: Madueke, Bowen, Rashford, Gordon, Rogers, Gibbs-White… a host of attacking profiles standing in his way. Greenwood hasn’t worn the Three Lions shirt since September 2020.

An international future in limbo

Jamaica are pushing, Steve McClaren dreams of fielding him for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, but Greenwood is biding his time. The 23-year-old wants to get back to his best at club level before deciding.

His only cap for England remains a bitter memory: an appearance against Iceland in 2020, quickly overshadowed by a health controversy. Since then, injuries, lack of continuity and sporting choices have kept him away from the Three Lions.

OM as the absolute priority

In Marseille, Greenwood has found a central role again. After scoring 21 goals last season in Ligue 1, he has become a major attacking weapon once more. Granted, this start to the 2025-2026 season has been timid (just one goal), but the Englishman remains a constant threat, a player capable of turning a match on its head at any moment.

For OM, seeing him turn the page on England – at least temporarily – is almost good news: fewer international distractions, more focus on the essentials, the club. Greenwood himself keeps repeating it: his priority is to establish himself fully at the Vélodrome.

Between English skepticism and Marseille hope

In England, few really believe in a Greenwood return to the national team. Tuchel has made his call, the competition is too strong and the Marseille striker is deemed still far from his best.

In Marseille, by contrast, the mood is more optimistic. The supporters know that a fully confident Greenwood is capable of moments of genius. In a Vélodrome that loves unpredictable players, he has already proved he can reinvent himself.

Marseille first, the rest will follow

Greenwood’s international story remains unclear, but one thing is certain: for now, OM comes out on top. Far from English controversies and Jamaican expectations, he needs to find the back of the net again and become the regular scorer he was last season.

Fans, what do you think: should he choose quickly between England and Jamaica? Or keep setting the Vélodrome alight above all else?
