Juve in rebuild mode
Juventus wrapped up their summer transfer window with a bang up front: Openda (Leipzig) and Zhegrova (LOSC) arrived in the final hours, while Vlahovic stayed in Turin. After the Kolo Muani pursuit fell through, the Old Lady strengthened but already knows it will need to anticipate January.
Calling the shots: Damien Comolli. The new chief executive, still without a designated sporting director, wants to plan very early for the winter of 2026 moves. And among his priorities is a name well known at the Vélodrome: Leonardo Balerdi.
The Balerdi pursuit reactivated
According to Calcio Mercato, Juventus are once again interested in the Argentine defender for the January window. The Italian outlet notes that his place in Marseille has been weakened by the arrivals of Nayef Aguerd and Benjamin Pavard. Tudor, the current Turin coach, likes his profile and could push for a move this winter.
On the OM side, the picture is more nuanced. Yes, Balerdi had a difficult start to the season, but he is by no means out of the plans. Recent lineups and the debates on our Talk Show last Thursday made that clear: he remains in the running to play an important role.
Juventus plan, Marseille watch
In Turin, winter could also bring movement in midfield (Ceballos monitored) or on the right (Mazraoui, Dodò, Molina in the frame after the Clauss/Boey attempts fell through). But the central axis remains a strategic priority. The Italian club, defensively solid at the start of the season (2 wins, no goals conceded), want to keep that strength while preparing for what’s next.
In Marseille, competition is intensifying. Aguerd and Pavard bring experience and leadership, but Balerdi keeps his strengths: youth, mobility, reading of the game. De Zerbi likes this defensive depth and could rotate, especially with the congested schedule.
Why OM have every reason to be patient
Selling Balerdi in January? A premature idea. OM have no intention of weakening their squad while the Champions League and Ligue 1 are in full swing. Especially since the Argentine has already proven his ability to bounce back after difficult periods.
The player himself has often shown he knows how to hang in there. And with OM, nothing is ever set in stone: one month of good performances, and the hierarchy can flip. That may be what De Zerbi is waiting for before making a decision.
Serious rumor or just transfer noise?
That Juve are thinking about Balerdi is no surprise: they’ve been tracking his profile for a long time. But imagining a transfer in January is another matter. The player has the chance to win back his place and show at the Vélodrome that he remains a key piece.
So, supporters: simple rumor or real threat for OM? The answer will be played out on the pitch… and in the offices, where Comolli is already planning for winter.
