A liberating goal at the Bernabéu
At last! Timothy Weah has opened his scoring account in the Olympique shirt, and what a setting to do it: the Santiago Bernabéu, against Real Madrid. Set up by his teammate Mason Greenwood, the American found the back of the net and gave Marseille fans a breath of hope. “I’m very happy and very proud, not just for myself but for the team and the fans,” he explained, smiling even through the disappointment of the final result (2–1).
Collective pride despite the defeat
Weah insists: OM showed they can compete with the very best. “We proved that Marseille is a big team. Despite the defeat, I’m more proud of our collective performance than the result. We are a group of winners.” More than his goal, it’s the spirit shown that fuels his confidence for what’s next.
Learning to turn opportunities into goals
The striker did not shy away from regrets: with Real reduced to ten men, OM had to be more ambitious. “We should have pushed harder. When you don’t score the 2–0 and the opponent gets a penalty, everything changes.” But for him, the night should be a lesson: “It was a learning step in a great atmosphere. Big teams respond, and we have to do that right away in Paris on Sunday.”
Respect for Mbappé, partnership with Greenwood
Weah didn’t forget to salute Kylian Mbappé, scorer and longtime friend: “He’s one of the best in the world. Seeing him shine against me is bittersweet, but I wish him all the best.” On the Marseille side, he highlighted his growing connection with Greenwood: “I knew he was going to win that ball, I just had to make the run.” Enough to raise high hopes for OM’s attack.
With his first goal and words firmly looking forward, Timothy Weah is emerging as one of the voices of this new dressing room. One thing is clear: OM haven’t come to the Champions League to make up the numbers.
